Weed Free Certifications

Certified Weed Free Forage

Weed-free forage is required on all United States Forest Service lands, in National Parks, Bureau of Reclamation land, military locations, tribal lands, National Fish and Wildlife refuges, and in some situations on Bureau of Land Management areas. Restrictions may apply to other lands administered by provincial, county, state, or federal agencies. This program is to prevent the spread of weed seeds and to educate and encourage landowners to treat their weeds.

If you would like to have a field or pasture certified, you may call our office to arrange a date. One week lead time is recommended to schedule an inspection. In order to be properly examined, the field(s) must be standing and within 10 days of harvest. The inspection shall include surrounding ditches, fence rows, easements, roads, loading areas, stackyards, etc. If an unforeseeable circumstance prevents you from harvesting within the 10 day period, you will be required to inform SCWP, schedule another paid inspection, and sign another Inspection Agreement BEFORE commencing cutting. The fee for an inspection is $40 per hour plus certified twine/tag costs.

Hay Inspection Agreement

All weed free hay must be marked with designated bailing twine or NAISMA approved tags, or both!

Certified Weed Free Mulch

Weed free mulch is a valuable tool for weed suppression and prevention. It is also used for post fire stabilization, erosion control and roadside use. SCWP can certify any mulch production in the county.

One inspection per year is needed for certification. The site from which the raw materials are harvested, or where they are processed into a final product must be inspected. These locations could be at the same site.

Minimum Standards

  • mulch shall be a minimum of 90% or greater than 2mm in particle size or

  • the temperature of the pile is maintained at 131 degrees Fahrenheit or higher for 15 days, during which the pile is turned a minimum of 2 times

Certified Weed Free Gravel Pit

All sites set to become gravel pits must be certified prior to production. The functioning pit itself must also be certified so that weeds are not getting moved off site. All areas of the site including store areas, gravel/sand piles, equipment and fence lines are inspected. Inspections are done annually.

All weed free product certifications cost $40 per hour of inspection time plus any required markings or tags.
